Marc Marquez crashes as Alex Marquez dominates Jerez MotoGP

Alex Marquez scored Ducati’s first victory of the season at the MotoGP Spanish Grand Prix, as Marc Marquez crashed out early a day on from his shock sprint win.

Reigning world champion Marc Marquez came into Sunday’s 25-lap grand prix at Jerez looking to double up, after going from a crash to a win in a chaotic sprint.

Converting pole to an early lead, the factory Ducati rider would crash out on lap two, having just been passed by younger brother Alex Marquez.

It represented Marc Marquez’s second non-finish on a Sunday in 2026, as the factory Ducati team’s podium drought continues after Pecco Bagnaia retired with a technical issue.

But Ducati could still celebrate a first victory of the season, as Gresini’s Alex Marquez dominated on his GP26 to secure back-to-back Spanish Grand Prix wins.

He beat championship leader Marco Bezzecchi by 1.9s, snapping the Aprilia rider’s five-race win streak.

It marks Ducati’s first grand prix win since last year’s Malaysian Grand Prix.

Bezzecchi stretched his championship lead to 11 points over team-mate Jorge Martin, who was fourth after recovering from 10th on the grid due to a penalty.

Fabio Di Giannantonio completed the podium for VR46, moving him to third in the standings and keeping him as the top Ducati rider.

Marc Marquez led Bezzecchi and Alex Marquez off the line, with the latter moving into second at Turn 9 on the opening lap with a strong lunge on the Aprilia rider.

Alex Marquez then took the lead from Marc Marquez at the Turn 6 hairpin on the second tour, before the reigning world champion went down at Turn 11 moments later.

Bezzecchi kept Alex Marquez at arm’s length for the next few laps, but the lead gap would eventually start to grow, with it up to 1.5s at the start of lap nine.

Alex Marquez would ease his way to an advantage of over two seconds before backing off on the last lap to celebrate with the Spanish fans in the final sector of the circuit.

Bezzecchi was a lonely second, finishing 3.893s clear of Di Giannantonio, who took third from Martin on lap four.

Martin was a further 3.4s back on the podium, with Ai Ogura making a late run to fifth ahead of Trackhouse Aprilia team-mate Raul Fernandez.

LCR Honda’s Johann Zarco was seventh after starting second, with Enea Bastianini the leading KTM for the Tech3 team in eighth.

Fermin Aldeguer was ninth on the sister Gresini Ducati, while Pedro Acosta faded to 10th after suffering front fairing damage to his KTM in a collision with Raul Fernandez.

Brad Binder was just 0.368s back from KTM team-mate Acosta, with Franco Morbidelli 12th on the sister VR46 Ducati.

Luca Marini was 13th for the factory Honda team ahead of Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo, while Joan Mir brushed off two long lap penalties to finish 15th on the second of the works team Hondas.

Aprilia wildcard Lorenzo Savadori retired, joining the factory Ducatis of Marc Marquez and Bagnaia on the non-finishers list.
