Tommy Bridewell put it all on the line to get his bike issues behind him and a trophy in front as he prevented triple trouble with victory over his teammate Glenn Irwin in the final race of round eight at Cadwell Park.

The duo had work to do on the grid again from row three, with Irwin first into the front group mix and holding the lead as Bridewell dug deep to protect his championship charge.

The run out of Charlies 2 into Park had become the most likely overtaking point for most riders at the narrow, hard to pass track. Bridewell put his move on Irwin there on lap sixteen, then pushed to the limit to try to hold on out front for the last two laps.

The BeerMonster Ducati rider set the fastest lap of the race to take over out front and initially pulled out a small gap, but the #2 responded and was right behind for a gripping finale.

On the final lap, the gap helped at Charlie’s as Irwin was too far away to reply, Bridewell blocked and held at the bus stop chicane, leaving just the hairpin.

Irwin was close – but not close enough – the #46 was a picture of relief to pick up a win, leading over the line by just 0.057s.

Leon Haslam was back on pole but lost out on the first lap after a massive start from Storm Stacey. The Rokit BMW rider was soon back in front, but with a sizeable lead group, which saw Kyle Ryde take over for a spell before the Ducati duo came into play, there was little advantage to be had.

Haslam held off a late lunge for the final rostrum slot from Ryde to complete the podium.

The LAMI OMG rider was fourth, unsighted by Haslam ahead in the final moments, saving what looked like a sure flip of his bike, running over the grass in the run to the line.

Leon Jackson was once again the top Kawasaki for Cheshire Mouldings in the final BSB race at his home round, close behind in fifth.

Jason O’Halloran ended up a lonely in sixth for McAMS Yamaha, clear of the next pair on track.

That battle was won by Christian Iddon for another seventh on the Oxford Products Ducati, just ahead of Josh Brookes, who again placed eighth for FHO Racing BMW Motorrad.

Early leader Stacey dropped to ninth on his Starline Kawasaki, but was thirteen seconds clear of Peter Hickman, who completed the top ten on the second FHO Racing bike.

Once again there were only fifteen finishers, so everybody who took the chequered flag gained points.

Bradley Perie was a distant eleventh, almost ten seconds behind Hickman for Lee Hardy Racing Kawasaki. There was a further wait for Franco Bourne to claim twelfth who has gone one place better at every race this meet, with every result being a new best for Andrew Irwin’s replacement at Honda Racing UK.

Jack Scott (Rapid CDH Racing Kawasaki) placed 13th, Luke Stapleford was 14th, with Hector Barbera again collecting the final point for TAG Racing.

Delight to disaster for Nesbitt

After three podiums at home in Thruxton rookie Charlie Nesbitt arrived at Cadwell Park on a high, but the round eight BSB meeting could not have been more different for the MasterMac Honda by Hawk Racing rider.

A huge crash in FP4 brought out the red flag and saw Nesbitt on crutches in the paddock.

That lead to him missing qualifying, but being placed last in the Q2 session as he was already through on his FP2 time.

That is where Nesbitt’s luck ran out – a fall ot the hairpin ended his sprint race. Bike issues saw him pull up at Park in race two.

This time, Nesbitt had woes before the race had even started, with his bike being worked on in the Hawk Racing garage on the warm-up lap, leading to a pit lane start for the rookie.

The #86 rider was able to work his way into the points but was off his bike again near the Mountain on lap seven, completing a trio of DNF’s

Crashes and Injuries and replacements

Nesbitt was not the only rider out of the action. Louis Valleley was again the first rider out of the race, soon followed by Luke Mossey. Tom Neave exited from a top ten place at Hall Bends late in the race.

Luke Stapleford in 14th was sitting in for Dean Harrison (who is at the Manx Grand Prix) for DAO Racing.

After providing some of the most spectacular launches over the Mountain this weekend, Ryan Vickers was ruled out of race three after his race two crash. Jack Kennedy was also out of action. They joined Max Cook and Danny Buchan (withdrawn by teams after earlier crashes) and the already recovering Josh Owens and Andrew Irwin on the sidelines.

There was no Tito Rabat following the end of his time with McAMS Yamaha. Danny Kent missed the round after his Thruxton fall proved costly in more ways than one.

Where does that leave the championship?

A valuable win sees Tommy Bridewell end Cadwell Park with a total of 303. The gap back to Glenn Irwin increased slightly with his statement win, now at 14.5 points.

Kyle Ryde sits third on 252, with Jason O’Halloran fourth on 248.5. Leon Haslam and his own BMW entry still hold fifth after his podium finish, now on a closer 227.

It was treble joy for Tommy Bridewell after a four way battle, with Josh Brookes electrical problems seeing him retiring from the lead in the final race of the weekend at Snetterton.

Once again from first on the grid Bridewell failed to hold on at the front, with Brookes taking over.

Looking in control, the Australian had his hand up at the start of lap ten into turn one as he desperatley tried to alter his bike and get the electrics working again.

It was initially team-mate Glenn Irwin who took over at the front still in the hunt for his first podium of the weekend, with Leon Haslam giving chase.

Bridewell was sat in behind and waited patiently, making his first move for victory on the penultimate lap. The BeerMonster Ducati bikes battled away, bringing the already close Haslam and Ryan Vickers into a four way battle for the win.

Bridewell made his next lunge count. On the final lap he pushed his way past, leading out of the Bomb Hole as the pressure sent Irwin wide. The Northern Irish rider still did not give in and tried the slipstream to the line, but the #46 held on to win by just 0.032s.

It is Bridewell’s first ever triple win and the first by anyone so far this season.

Behind the duo, Rockit BMW’s Leon Haslam managed to hold off Ryan Vickers for the final podium spot.

Vickers just misses out on home podium

Ryan Vickers started on the wrong foot, and was gifted a second chance in race two when the safety car came out.

Being able to rejoin allowed him to set the second fastest lap and start the third race from the front row, with less work to do and more hope of success.

The LAMI OMG Yamaha rider got such a good start he lead into the first corner, though he eventually faded back into the chasing group, then hunting down Brookes.

A permanent fixture at the front, his reversal of fortunes in the Snetterton 300 was complete with fourth but couldn’t quite land a home rostrum visit. As Haslam escaped he had pressure coming in from behind to deal with.

That was from a rapidly approaching Christian Iddon, who was almost back in play as he took advantage of all the in-fighting ahead to catch the leaders on his way to fifth on the Oxford Poducts Ducati.

Jason O’Halloran won his battle with Lee Jackson for sixth on the McAMS yamaha, with the #14 once again the best placed Kawasaki rider for Cheshire Holdings.

Kyle Ryde once again found himself having to make up places from his grid slot, this time rising to ninth by the chequered flag on the second OMG Yamaha in a tough meet for the title hopeful.

Danny Kent fell back after a good start over the closing laps to finish ninth for his Lovell Kent Honda team, while Tito Rabat closed out the top ten completing a solid first time racing Snetterton with McAMS Yamaha.

Charlie Nesbitt (MasterMac Honda) was the best of the rookies, holding off Jack Kennedy (Mar-Train Yamaha) in the run in to the line for eleventh.

The remaining points on offer went to Max Cook (Cheshire Mouldings Kawasaki) in 13th, who was clear of Josh Owens (Crendon Honda) in 14th who in turn had his own gap over Tom Neave (Honda Racing UK) in a distant 15th.

Dean Harrison and Hector Barbera were the only other finishers.

Danny Buchan was absent for the final race after his race two crash, with an update that he had been transferred to Norfolk and Norwich Hospital for further scans and assessments after suffering a concussion.

Franco Bourne and Peter Hickman had an early exit, leaving Hickman visibly frustrated after also crashing out of race two.

Storm Stacey soon followed, as did Liam Delves and Bradley Perie. Josh Brookes only has six laps left when he was forced to retire from the lead, while Jack Scott slid off at into Murray’s on the penultimate lap. Luke Mossey also failed to finish.

Where does that leave the championship?

Tommy Bridewell had his best ever race weekend and that was reflected in the title table, with the 34 year old once again extending his lead, now with a total of 217, a gap of 25 back to Glenn Irwin.

Despite his struggles Kyle Ryde moves back into third after Josh Brookes retired, they sit on 171 and 168 respectively.

Another podium from Leon Haslam sees him close in on the duo, now with a tally of 164.

It was all change over the line with a time penalty added for passing the safety car as it entered the pits, but Bradley Ray had a big enough advantage to keep his win and pull off a treble at Snetterton.

Following on from a dominant race one and tactical win over Tarran Mackenzie in race two, the third race looking to be going the same way, with the Yamahas having broken up ahead, Glenn Irwin was giving chase.

The safety car was deployed to remove Storm Stacey’s smoking bike, which bunched the field back up.

Launching from pole after setting a new lap record in the second race, Tarran Mackenzie, launched again as the safety car pulled in from the lead, with the two riders behind following and also being deemed to have passed the car too soon.

That caused the final standings to jump all over the place.

Ray, who had been able to use the safety car to his advantage had pulled away from Mackenzie and Irwin who fought each other for the final podium places. That gap was enough to keep his win after the two second penalty was applied to the first three riders over the line – Ray, Mackenzie and Irwin.

It is the #28’s first ever triple win at a BSB meeting and his dominant weekend also saw him pick up Snetterton’s Race Of Aces trophy.

McAMS Yamaha rider Tarran Mackenzie was given third, which caused him to apologise to the riders who followed, especially Glenn Irwin.

That was because although he drove his bike down to parc ferme thinking he had bagged a podium in second, he rode past the track staff trying to wave him back to the pits as he additional time meant he was dropped to fourth, which the team disputed with race direction after the race as Irwin felt holding back was more dangerous as he could be hit from behind.

The other podium position was instead awarded to FHO Racing BMW rider Peter Hickman – his first rostrum finish of the season.

Jason O’Halloran worked his way up to fifth, the best finish of the weekend for the McAMS rider.

The Australian was clear of Leon Haslam, who again made gains in the race, climbing from thirteenth on the grid to sixth for the with the VisionTrack Kawasaki team.

Tommy Bridewell got a front row start and got away well, but eventually faded back to seventh on the Oxford Products Ducati, just behind Haslam.

They gapped Kyle Ryde on the second Rich Energy OMG bike who crossed the line eighth, in turn clear of Andrew Irwin (Synetiq BMW Motorrad), another rider who got off to a strong start, initially up to third and racing his brother before he slipped back to ninth.

He found himself racing Lee Jackson for positon after the safety car and kept ahead, meaning the Cheshire Mouldings FS-3 Kawasaki rider had to settle for tenth.

Josh Brookes was two seconds further back down the road for MCE Ducati in eleventh.

The battle for twelfth was next to hit the finish line, with Danny Kent (Buildbase Suzuki)working his way up from 19th on the grid after crashing out of the previous race, to finish just ahead of Tom Neave (FHO Racing BMW with Attis Sports).

The remaining points on offer went to Honda’s Ryo Mizuno in 14th and his team-mate Dean Harrison in 15th

Again there were very few riders finishing with 16th placed Leon Jeacock (Rapid CDG Ducati) and Takumi Takahashi (Honda Racing) the only other riders to meet the chequered flag.

Absentees and DNFs

There were several riders not starting with Ryan Vickers still out with concussion and Rory Skinner withdrawn again to continue his recovery after his qualifying crash.

There was an early off for Christian Iddon. Tom Sykes followed a few laps later, helped off after contact with Danny Buchan, who later retired himself.

Josh Owens, Liam Delves and chrissy Rose also failed to finish.

As their rivals faded away it was a last lap battle royale which decided the third and final race at Brands Hatch, with Tarran Mackenzie coming out in front to finish round five with a second win.

Mackenzie, who became the sixth different winner of the season courtesy of his victory in race two, was in front, Jason O’Halloran stalking behind hoping to pounce on an error.

The #1 plate was smooth and faultless out front so the Australian saved up his big final move heading into the final turns, starting the lunge at Stirlings, with the pair side by side coming out of Clearways for a grandstand photo finish.

Mackenzie, who had started on pole once again thanks to his earlier performance, fought back to cross just 0.037s ahead of his team-mate.

O’Halloran kept pushing despite feeling a fall coming twice on the exhilarating final lap to take second, the MCAMS riders in 1-2 formation for all three races this weekend, a first for the Yamaha team.

Glenn Irwin stages podium return

Glenn Irwin had lead for much of the race before being swallowed by the duo, who pulled the pin on him once out in front. The Honda Racing rider fell back into a battle for third with Bradley Ray which he was determined to win, to secure his first podium visit since he dominated the opening weekend with three wins.

Ray found himself fourth again, which limited his access to the podium points for the showdown, despite some bike changes on the Rich Energy OMG Yamaha to try and save his rostrum form, which has deserted him when he needs it most.

Oxford Products Ducati’s Tommy Bridewell couldn’t make another podium comeback so this time settled for a solid fifth, pressured all the way by Leon Haslam, who turned his further improved fourth on the grid into sixth in the race for VisionTrack Kawasaki.

Kyle Ryde was a lonely seventh on the second Rich Energy Yamaha bike, not able to catch the duo ahead but clear of Peter Hickman in eighth, a return to the form he was showing before Knockhill for FHO Racing BMW.

An early error saw Rory Skinner drop well outside of the top ten, but the Cheshire Holdings FS-3 Kawasaki rider fought back to claim ninth after passing Lee Jackson (MCE Ducati) late in the race.

Christian Iddon made up the most places from the grid positions, finishing eleventh after a determined run on the Buildbase Suzuki, thirteen places higher than he started. His team-mate Danny Kent was one of several riders to pull into the pits.

Andrew Irwin put his earlier fall behind him, back in the points in twelfth for SYNTEIQ BMW Motorrad, after a close finish with Iddon.

Takumi Takahashi (Honda Racing UK) was 14th. Chrissy Rouse said on the grid he’d like to score a point at Brands Hatch, which he did, keeping both Josh Owens ans Luke Mossey behind him in the approach to the chequered flag.

Tom Sykes left he grid five minutes before the start of the race, there was an issue with smoke seen at the bottom of his MCE Ducati on the out lap. He was not the only big name to endure an early exit with Josh Brookes also failing to register a lap.

Ryan Vickers was absent for the final race after sustaining a small fracture to his right hand earlier in the day.

Where does that leave the championship and the podium points?

After taking over at the top with his race two result, second again cements Jason O’Halloran’s position as the new title leader after Brands Hatch.

The #22 now has a total of 265 and 37 podium points to his name. That takes him 10 points clear in the title hunt, with Ray also having less podium points with 30 after his two fourth places on Sunday.

Lee Jackson may not have had his strongest weekend but he remains third overall, but Glenn Irewin who is sixth has two more podium points to his credit with 18. Roey Skinner remains fourth and Kyle Ryde fifth.

The final two showdown shots are now occupied by Tommy Bridewell in seventh and Tarran Mackenzie, who displaces Danny Buchan following his Brands Hatch comeback.
